Clients are advised to use our proxy server proxy.mis.net.au

What's a proxy then?

A proxy server is a computer used on a network specifically to cache information that is travelling on the network. This works much like the cache memory on your PC or hard disk, by keeping a copy of data that has been received for future reference.

This works by having your web browser send requests for information to the proxy server, which in turn, requests information from the original web site. Before the proxy server goes to download the information you have requested, the proxy checks to see if it already has a copy of the data stored locally. If so, it checks to see if the remote page has been changed, and if not, sends you the information from the local copy.

Using the proxy server reduces traffic on the network, and can drastically increase the speed that information is transferred to your browser.

Research by National Laboratory for Applied Network Research has shown the savings, for users, and network capacity by using a proxy server.
