Windows XP Professional Internet Configuration Information
Windows XP Professional Requirements
First we need to check which way you are operating your Windows XP. Right click on the START button.
Then select Properities.
If the item selected is Start Menu then follow Section 1 below.
If the item selected is Classic Start Menu then follow Section 2 below.
Section 1
Go to Start, then Control Panel.
Under Control panel, we again need to find out which layout you are using.
To do this go to Tools tab, the select Folder Options.
Under the Tasks if the selected option is Show common tasks in folders continue on section X below.
Under the Tasks if the selected option is Use classic folders continue on section Y below.
Section 2
Go to Start, the Settings, then Control Panel.
Under Control panel, we again need to find out which layout you are using.
To do this go to Tools tab, the select Folder Options.
Under the Tasks if the selected option is Show common tasks in folders continue on section X below.
Under the Tasks if the selected option is Use classic folders continue on section Y below.
Section X
- One left click on the Network and Internet Connections icon.
- Double click on Setup or change your Internet Connection
- Click on the Add button
- Place a Dot in the Dialup to private network
- Press Next
- In the Phone Number box type 47350400
- Press Next
- Change the name from Dial-up Connection to Merlin
- Press Finish
- Then in Merlin Settings ensure the top two (2) boxes are un-checked
- Check the box Use a proxy server for this connection (these setting will not apply to other Connections).
- In the address box type proxy.mis.net.au and in the port box type 8800
- Check the Bypass proxy server for local addresses
- Under Dial-up settings
In the User Name box type your username
In the Password box type your password
In the Domain box DO NOT type anything in. (Leave Blank)
- Press OK
- Ensure the Always dial my default connection is selected.
- Ensure Merlin is selcted with the (Default) beside it.
- Select the General tab accros the top.
- In the Home Page section.
in the Address box type http://www.mis.net.au
- Press OK
- Close Control Pannel
Section Y
- Find Internet Options icon and double click on it.
- Go to the Connections tab accross the top.
- Click on the Add button
- Place a Dot in the Dialup to private network
- Press Next
- In the Phone Number box type 47350400
- Press Next
- Change the name from Dial-up Connection to Merlin
- Press Finish
- Then in Merlin Settings ensure the top two (2) boxes are un-checked
